Wednesday is house cleaner day. After much deliberation, I decided to continue with getting the fortnightly clean. My beyond-superb cleaner Andrea left a month or two ago, but offered the business to her 18 year old son, Ken, who had worked with her during his study holidays.
Ken is no Andrea, but with my limited mobility and deep hatred of housework, I really do need some assistance. I've never liked being home during house cleans and in the current CV19 conditions it's probably wise to vacate. So Gem gets a 2 hour visit every second Wednesday.
My knees are less than keen on the 35 minute drive. I suppose basically holding them in the same position, particularly the right, stretches the friendship. Consequently I am even more hobbly and swollen when I get to Fernvale.
This morning Gem greeted me at the door, with Billie choosing that exact moment to fall into a blissful sleep, despite howling and up-chucking pretty much constantly for the previous few hours. We took advantage of the lull with me planning some cooking and Gem having a shower! and getting laundry on. Miss Billie had a feed, appeared to be gently settling in my arms so Gem escaped to get groceries. We then had a 50 minute performance in rounds, appear to settle, become agitated, scream, scream encore, make Nonna get up and move a lot, appear to settle etc. After 30 minutes I gave her a bottle which was well received but resulted in huge hiccups for such a wee body. No settling, a lot more screaming until Gemma arrived home. Then as she walked in the door, placid Billie reappeared.
During a hectic afternoon we did manage to make fruit bars and meatloaf for Rick's lunches, laundry got done, Billie's outgrown clothes sorted.
Simba is still a winner at change time, and a new gift and card entralled Billie for at least 20 minutes. I had a lovely day and it's great to be able to lend a hand. I would have been lost without Gem looking after me post surgery and it is so lucky we timed it well.
Gem and Billie are the only people I see/visit, as I endeavour to remain germ free for them.
